They finally admitted it! There is no debt crisis that requires an immediate, austere solution. On ABC’s “This Week”, Boehner finally admitted that “we do not have an immediate debt crisis.” While Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, chose to debut his flip-flop on CBS’ Face the Nation.
Their admission finally brings them around to the thinking of the President, Nobel Prize-winning Paul Krugman and me. Yes me. I’ve constantly tried, in the most pedestrian language, to demonstrate the fallacy of the Republican argument.

I tried to sound the alarm, here: The Reason the Debt Panic is a Fluke
and here: The Republican’s Debt and Deficit Blackmail.
I’ve explained the Republican obsession with Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security here: It’s Always about Entitlements.
While the national conversation has raged about the budget, I’ve shared the truth about our budget history. As the naysayers demagogued the President and ObamaCare, I told you how we financed universal healthcare for Iraqis as if they have more right to our tax supported healthcare than the Americans who pay the taxes.
When the Republicans railed about the Stimulus, I gave a comprehensive list of the job-creating measures the Republicans had eliminated for tax cuts. I even gave a chronology of our bailout economics, going clear back to 1932.
So, do I feel vindicated? No.
The fact that the Speaker and Budget Manager both suddenly appeared on talk shows to unveil a new talking point is suspect to me. They have gone out of their way to disagree with the President and rebuff any and every idea he has ever had. The idea that they’ve suddenly seen the light and can freely admit the President is right, just doesn’t cut it with me. They always have an ulterior motive.
Is it the sequester? While the media has suggested the President cried wolf about the effects of the recent budget cuts, the truth is, it has left many suffering in it’s wake and it will only get worse as time passes. I suspect Republican’s constituents, Mayors and Governors are putting pressure on the Republicans to forget this budget foolishness, as their states, cities and counties adjust to the loss of millions of federal dollars.
Looking forward to March 27, we approach the need to raise the debt ceiling again. Will the Republicans take the country hostage once again, threaten a government shutdown? I think not. I think they’re looking for a way out of the mess they’ve created. Or are they simply covering their own backsides because they can’t muster the votes to make a deal with their recalcitrant House members?
It’s just a suggestion, but they might try governing as if it is a task to be done in honor of the country, for the good of the country. Afterall, governing is not a contest! They talk a lot about honoring principles, but in truth, I haven’t once seen them display any guts or glory. let alone principle. Take their recent vote against gun registration. You must register to drive and they have gone through hell and high water regarding registration to vote. But they haven’t the courage to do the right thing with regard to guns, because they govern for themselves and the preservation of their jobs. They’re no patriots, they’re the very parasites they rail against.
Republicans are not fiscally responsible. They never have been. I tried to tell you that too...The Arithmetic - Democrats V Republicans. They always, always have an ulterior motive. What is it this time?
